Educated at University of London – B.Sc (1957) and D.Sc (1975). Worked on Aleyrodidae (Hemiptera) as crop pests in Trinidad (1959), Nigeria (1959-61), and Sudan (1961-64). Studied Thysanoptera at The Natural History Museum, London from 1964-1992, and Keeper of Entomology Department 1981-92. Contracted by The Natural History Museum (1992-94) to produce “Thrips of Central & South America”, and from 1995-96 employed by CSIRO Entomology, Canberra as McMaster Fellow.
