Professor of Crop Science at the University of Reading since April 2013, I have almost 20 years experience in agricultural research. After graduating with B.Sc in Biotechnology from Dublin City University (Ireland), my PhD research was on genome dynamics of the anthracnose pathogen of common bean (Colletorichum lindemuthianum). I did a first postdoc on maize structural genomics at Long Ashton Research Station in Bristol (UK) and a short second postdoc on positional cloning of Arabidopsis root hair genes before moving to a project leader position at the National Institute of Agricultural Botany in Cambridge (UK) where I became interested in association genetics of arable crops. Nowadays, I work mainly on the genetic analysis of a variety of relevant traits in both wheat and faba bean.
