Load spikes on the server

We've been experiencing load spikes on the server. This problem is known to the administrators, yet there's been no solution for it yet. Please add any information which might help to solve the problem here.

Possible causes

Segmentation fault between kernel and fpm

Here's a log which points to a segmentation fault happening during a load spike. This might not be the cause however, but a consequence!
